Social workspace · In development
A place to meet. A different way to Discord.
A browser-based virtual office where people explore as customizable robot avatars and move between conversations by walking into rooms.
Built for the moments between a meeting, a spontaneous conversation and simply hanging out.
Concept overview; interactive demo coming later.
Inside the beta
Welcome to Orbital.

The starting point
“Could this work for our Discord community?”
A friend had the same idea and wanted to know whether it was feasible for his Discord community. I wanted to turn that idea into something people could actually try: a more interactive way to hang out, meet and collaborate beyond the usual list of voice channels.
The office gives those conversations a sense of place. A department becomes somewhere to visit, a meeting has a room, and the people around you become recognizable avatars.
The experience
From signing in to settling in.
01 · Arrive
Bring your Discord identity
Members sign in with their Discord account, join voice in Discord and enter the browser-based office.
02 · Explore
Make a robot your own
Customizable robot avatars and custom 3D assets give the workspace its personality. First- and third-person views put members inside the environment.
03 · Connect
Let the room guide the conversation
Walking into a department, office or meeting room moves a member into its corresponding Discord voice channel. Voice stays in Discord.
Work in progress
Building the office out.
The project combines a social workspace with an explorable 3D environment. Development and testing are continuing; this portfolio page introduces the idea rather than serving as the interactive office.
More ways to explore
An RTS-style overview alongside first- and third-person views, with further navigation, room-layout and asset improvements.
More ways to spend time together
Plans include shared media controls and a rave room, extending the office beyond work and meetings.
The office beta is available. Visit office.chriskalkowski.com to see the reception preview and connection instructions. Joining the office uses a Discord account and voice connection. A separate interactive showcase is planned for later; RTS-style views, shared media controls and the rave room remain development goals.
Have an idea worth trying?
This project began with a conversation. I’m interested in practical ideas that bring people, software and real-world needs together.
